Speaking cards- Participation grade

Tarjetas de hablar: Speaking cards

Necesitamos hablar, escribir, leer y escuchar en español.

While working towards fluency in a foreign language it is essential to be able to read in the target language, listen and understand, write in the target language and very importantly speak in the target language.

For a participation grade, the students in 7th grade and 8th grade have speaking cards. These are index cards with their names on them that remain in class. When the student speaks in Spanish (answers a questions, reads instructions, volunteers to participate in a dialogue etc.) they have a chance to recieve a stamp or sticker. Each sticker is worth 1 point on their speaking cards. Each quarter we will start over with new cards. I will tell the students how much the card is worth at the start of the quarter. It is possible to earn over 100 points thus earning extra credit for participating and speaking Spanish in the classroom!

Example of student speaking card from 7-1.
For example for 7-1,7-3 and 7-4 started their cards start at 70 points for 1st quarter. (70% D.) We started these cards 2 weeks into the quarter. Each time they earn a stamp or sticker they earn one point. If the students participate at least once each day they will be able to earn an "A" for their participation grade of the quarter. Students will be able to know their quarterly participation grade at any time by counting the number of stamps or stickers they have on their cards.

Other participation grades include:
-Various group activities
-Communicative activities
-La Pinza game
